CSE - Advanced Tennis Analytics

Over the past few decade, there has been a considerable rise video-based tennis analytics.  This broader project is oriented at several analytic / data streaming projects as related to tennis.  

  • Meta Smart Glasses for On-Court Refereeing: The focus of this project would be to examine the extent that either a roving or chair-based official could use the Meta-based smart glasses or the Meta smart glasses in conjunction with a single fixed camera for assessing various in / out calls.  The initial focus of the project will be combine / analyze video recordings from the smart glasses to assess the accuracy / ability to accurately determine line calls, lets, and foot faults.  
  • Split Step / Spacing: One of the more fundamental aspects of tennis is proper footwork (split step, initial movement) to achieve the correct court position / spacing relative to making contact with the ball.  The focus of this effort will be to take captured video from the Swing Vision app (and possibly Meta Smart Glasses) to construct analytics related to footwork.
  • Wireless Score Streaming: Many local clubs have started to add streaming of matches for local youth tournaments.  However, one part that is missing is the score except indirectly when shown from the scorecards near the net post.  The focus of this effort will be to explore mechanisms where the scorecards are enhanced to enable streaming of the score via a combination of 3D printed scorecards / embedded aspects (magnets, tabs, etc.).
